United Methodist Women's PageUMW Purpose Statement

Welcome to Albion District United Methodist Women. We are a community of women whose founding sisters gathered together back in 1869 and became organized for mission. This small group of women took to heart the scripture in Matthew 25 when Jesus says “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Jesus tells us to love every person and serve anyone we can. These brave women knew the value of being intentional in helping those in need. Today those same values serve as guidelines to the organization. As members of United Methodist Women we work together to make life better for women, children, youth and marginalized neighbors in the world.

We are followers of Jesus Christ who live our faith; meeting in local churches, during lunch breaks at work, after classes and online. We are a supportive community and through this community we are provided leadership development opportunities, mission educational opportunities, and opportunities to become informed about social issues. Through our Pledge to Mission, we support institutions and projects that empower women, children and youth in the United States and around the world.

Membership is open to any woman who indicates her desire to belong and to participate in the global mission of the church through United Methodist Women. (The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 2004, Section 256.5, Article 4) Please be intentional in your faith journey and join your United Methodist Women as we work, study, love and grow together as a community of believers.

I am looking forward to meeting with you. Please call any of your district leadership team with questions or concerns.

Sincerely in Christ,
Sharon Burkart
